Sturbridge Water Department Wins DEP Water Quality Award

The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection’s (MassDEP) Drinking Water Program has notified the Sturbridge Water Department that they have been nominated for Regional Recognition in the 2013 Public Water System Awards Program for its outstanding performance in 2012.IRP_06 to 08 FINAL (41)

According to Yvette DiPieza, Drinking Water Program Director, “It is noted that Sturbridge Water Department has undertaken a number of water system improvements recently that has vastly improved the customer’s water quality. To comply with the SWTR the Department inactivated a well under the influence until the plant could be upgraded. Operators also focused on other improvements to corrosion control, fluoridation, and iron and manganese removal, added a SCADA system, and through all this, they had to contend with tornadic and drought impacts throughout the town with no disruptions in service.”

R.H. White congratulates the Sturbridge Water Department on this achievement and is proud to have played a role in their success. Our recent work includes:

  •  Upgrades to an existing Iron Removal Plant including a building addition, UV system installation, filter modifications and media replacement.
  • Upgrades to the existing well #1 Pump station including demolition of an existing engine drive, installation of a chlorine analyzer, roof replacement, and improvements to the control system.
  • A new water main loop.
